TID rollover of Prepaid meters - FAQs
TID stands for Token Identifier and is simply the identification code that uniquely identifies each generated token. When a meter accepts a token, it stores this token identifier (TID) to prevent the same token from being accepted more than once.
A token identifier (TID) is calculated from a specific reference date and has a lifespan of 31.9 years, after which the meter's memory will no longer accept new tokens. At the end of its lifetime, the meter's TID memory has to be reset (zeroed); and the meter's key has to be changed to prevent the old tokens from being reused (depth limitation).
The current keys on sale are linked to a 1993 reference date and a key revision of 1, i.e. STS edition 1. For this reference date, the token identifier (TID) reaches its end of life on 24 November 2024. This is the Token ID 2024.
STS edition 2 keys are instead linked to a 2014 reference date and a new key revision. For this reference date, the TID reaches its end of life in 2045 (i.e. 2014 + 31.9 years). All STS products (old and new) must be STS edition 2 compliant by 24 November 2024.
All users of Eneo prepaid meters operating on the not yet updated STS edition 1 with software brand HEXING or INHEMETER installed between 2017 and 2021 should be concerned by the Token ID (TID) update.
NB: The prepaid meter user should especially be involved in the process of updating the TID memory key of his meter. This process involves a special pair of tokens called Key Change Tokens (KCT) that are inserted into the prepaid meter to complete the software update of the prepaid meter. Code 873 allows the user to see which STS edition their meter is running on.
Dial and validate "873" on your CIU to know the status of your meter (STS edition 1 or edition 2):
- If you see "01", your prepaid meter is still in the STS edition 1 standard; you are eligible for the upgrade
- If you see "02", your prepaid meter is already in the STS edition 2 standard
Stage 1. Refill any tokens you have already purchased because after your meter has been updated, it will no longer accept any old STS edition 1 tokens, so you must enter any purchased tokens that are not yet entered.
Stage 2. Once the sales system has generated the 2 special update tokens that you will receive by SMS, you will need to insert and validate them before any refill token you may have bought. The update of your TID key should be done on your interface/CIU as follows:
- Enter the first code, if accepted it will show 23 or 1st
- Then enter the second code, if it is accepted it will show 24 or 2nd
- Finally, enter 873 and validate, if you see 02; it means that your meter has been updated,
Stage 3. Finally, enter your refill token which will be accepted if the update is successful.
If you have received the TID key update tokens but do not enter them, any refill tokens you purchase later will not be accepted.
No, you must use all the refill tokens before entering the TID tokens.

Dial 873 on the recharging interface to check the STS version or edition.
- If the message displayed is 2, 02 or 2-02, stop the operation because this meter is already in STS edition 2. It is therefore not eligible. You do not need to do any upgrading. No need to wait for upgrade tokens from Eneo.
- If the message displayed 01 (HEXING single-phase) or 01 and then 02 (HEXING three-phase) or 01-02 for INHEMETER is displayed, you need to upgrade.
If your meter is eligible for upgrade, get ready to receive the upgrade tokens from Eneo by SMS or WhatsApp in the next few days/weeks.
Eneo is also working on an application that will allow you to check the status of your meter via a link and act accordingly. An announcement will be made as soon as the platform tests are conclusive. For the time being, customers will continue to receive upgade tokens by SMS and WhatsApp.
First of all, please enter all the tokens you have purchased before, because after migrating from edition 1 to 2, the system will no longer be able to recognise these tokens.
Next, enter the two upgade tokens you have received within a maximum of 2 minutes by following the steps below:
Type the first token and press the red button to confirm. If the message 1st * or *23 or PL_1st or PL_2nd is displayed, the first token has been accepted.
Insert the second token, then press the red button to validate. If the message 24 or ACCEPTED is displayed, the second token has been accepted.
NB: The operation of inserting the 2 tokens must be completed in 2 minutes maximum.
Dial 873 on the recharging interface. The operation is successful if one of the messages below is displayed:
- 02 for HEXING single-phase meters
- 02 and then 02 for three-phase HEXING meters
- 02-02 for single and three-phase INHNEMETER meters
In the event of failure (if you obtain any other message apart from those above), restart the operation from the beginning and respect the 2-minute time limit.
In the event of multiple failures, request assistance via #LiveChat https://my.eneocameroon.cmor 8010.
