Douala 5 : Eneo Re-configures & Strengthens Distribution Network amid Power Supply Disruptions

.

The entire power supply system is still under strain due to the numerous constraints on the entire chain (generation, transmission, & distribution), alongside growing demand. This situation sometimes requires scheduled or emergency power rationing for weeks now. In the Douala 5 area (Makepe, Kotto, Bonamoussadi, Lendi et environs), these difficulties have been worsened by the existence of many illegal connections that weaken the power distribution network.

To improve on (not permanently solve) the situation between now and mid- February 2025 latest, Eneo Cameroon is taking two main measures, pending the large scale works scheduled by the Transmission Network Manager:

  • Strengthening and re-configuring the distribution network to reduce the strain on the Makepe Transmission Substation (SONATREL), which powers the majority of Douala 5. Within this framework, a new distribution line is being built between the Deido Transmission Substation and the Bonamoussadi area (see the images - attached hereto - of works carried out between Saker Deido and Akwa Nord going through Bonateki). This power line aims to connect some Bonamoussadi customers to Deido, in order to reduce risks of emergency rationing during peak hours at night;
  • Intensifying operations to inspect and dismantle, with support from law enforcement, fraud-promoting networks.

Eneo Cameroon would like to thank its customers (in Deido & Akwa Nord) for their understanding amid the inconvenience caused by these network-improvement works, which have been sped up since a few days now between 7:00 AM & 7:00 PM
