Fight against illegal use of electricity: Let's put a stop to usurpers "Fake Employees"

Resolutely committed to the fight against non-technical losses and the improvement of the quality of service, Eneo Cameroon is deploying a vast campaign to control installations across the country. The main purpose of this campaign is to secure the electricity network and to check the installations of customers in accordance with Article 13 of the Rules of Service on Public Distribution of Electricity in Cameroon.

It should be noted that 30% of the energy distributed is absorbed by non-conventional networks and irregular practices. This proportion represents an estimated loss of CFAF 60 billion per year. The electricity sector is thus deprived of money that should be used for investments to improve the quality of service. These irregularities put people and property at risk, affect the electricity network and degrade the quality of energy.

The fight against the illegal use of electricity is in the public interest. Eneo Cameroon strongly urges everyone to get involved. When a control team comes to your home, you are kindly requested to collaborate with them to facilitate the operation.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that malicious individuals, unrelated to Eneo, very often take advantage of this context to abuse the less informed customers. To protect yourself from a possible fraud or any other inconvenience, have the right reflexes:

  • Identify the people you are dealing with (Eneo or subcontractor employees) by means of a badge and an ID card, a service or mission order duly signed and stamped by an Eneo manager.
  • Under no circumstances should you give money to third parties! All financial transactions are carried out at Eneo cash desks or at approved partners against receipts.
  • In the event of a dispute, take advantage of the remedies provided for in the Rules of Service on Public Distribution of Electricity in Cameroon.
  • Do not hesitate to report any abuse or dishonest behaviour.

Customers who are victims of frauds in the context of these activities are requested to report them either to their Regional Office or anonymously and confidentially to the number: 698 280 000.

Eneo's internal teams in charge of the fight against non-compliance are working closely with the law enforcement authorities to track down unscrupulous and fake employees. Since 2020, several fake employees were arrested.

Furthermore, Eneo Cameroon invites users who know they are in an irregular situation to go spontaneously to their agencies to have their installations normalised and avoid the inconvenience of a procedure that could lead to legal proceedings.
