Flash Info Média : Vandalism affects the Dibamba power plant: 88 MW less as from this evening

The Dibamba power plant is unable to supply its 88MW generation capacity to Eneo. The upshot: an imbalance between supply and demand. This is going to be expressed in disruptions in electricity supply in certain dwelling areas notably at peak periods.

Two towers of the transmission line that conveys energy from the Dibamba thermal power plant to consumption centres collapsed on Monday due to acts of vandalism perpetrated on these facilities. Altogether, 7 towers were vandalized and put out of service.

«According to Eugene Ngueha, COO Technical Activities at Eneo, “Angle bars are metal rods that structure and support towers at the base. They were removed from the supports. Following bad weather that night, two of these towers gave way and collapsed. "

Consequently, 88MW capacity of this power plant will not be available at peak hours. Thus, the Dibamba power plant cannot contribute in satisfying electrical energy demand of the South Interconnected Grid. The shortfall created is likely to cause rationing in certain neighbourhoods and localities. 

While working actively on a refurbishment plan of these facilities, Eneo Cameroon has put in place an emergency measure. It will consist in installing provisional mechanisms that can enable the Dibamba power plant supply once more its generation capacity to the South Interconnected Grid within a period of 5 to 10 days.

Eneo operation teams are doing everything to minimize the impact of this situation on electric power utility.
