Eneo Cameroon modernises access to electricity in Kye-ossi with upgraded network, prepaid meters

Kye-ossi, 17 September 2021 - As part of its commitments to the State of Cameroon, notably to increase the rate of access to electricity in Cameroon and to roll out modern metering systems, Eneo Cameroon is installing the first prepaid meters in the border town in the South of the country.

Kye-Ossi is a border town located in the Ntem Vally Sub-Division of the South Region, Cameroon. Bordering Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, it has more than 75,000 inhabitants. Due to its geographical position, the town is an important trade and business platform.

As part of a working visit to the South Region, the General Manager of Eneo made a visit to the town of Kye-ossi on 17 September 2021. His company has undertaken to accelerate the implementation of its investment plan to modernise the supply of electricity to the people of this town.

Eric Mansuy visited the thermal power plant which Eneo has taken over at the request of the State, the distribution networks under construction and consumer-customers who receive their prepaid meters.

Eneo has normalised the installations of the thermal power plant. This action is followed by the rehabilitation of the distribution networks. Some 400 concrete poles are being used in this rehabilitation process, as well as 7 transformers. Almost 50% of this work to create a more extensive network that complies with the standards has already been completed. At the same time, Eneo is connecting households and businesses to the new network. As a result, 1,500 households have already been connected via prepayment meters.

The solemn installation of a meter by the General Manager of Eneo on 17 September 2021 is symbolic of this commitment and of the company's action to upgrade the existing electrical works in this town and to provide consumers in this locality with a meter that gives them control over their consumption.

According to Eric Mansuy, "The normalisation of the power station, the deployment of a new network and the offer of a prepaid meter demonstrate our commitment to accompany the Government in improving access to electricity in the territories. In the same way, our investment is underway in other localities in the country, such as Ngambé Tikar. In addition, here in Kyo-ossi, we are showcasing a part of what Eneo is doing in the South Region where it is accelerating its investment plan this year.

In addition to Kyo-ossi, several localities in the South and in Mbalmayo are beneficiaries of Eneo's actions. Among these actions of 2021, we cite:

- Rehabilitation of networks for the re-supply of some forty villages around Mbalmayo and Ebolowa (more than 1,800 concrete and wood poles and 38 transformers involved in the reconstruction, work 50% completed and due to be finished by the end of 2021)
- The change of voltage in Ebolowa (24 transformers already installed and 16 others to be installed by October 2021)
- Reinforcement of secondary lines supplying Olama, Ngomedzap, Lolodorf, Bigambo
- The special plan to reinforce the supply to Meyomessala
- The cleaning of the line corridors either with bulldozers or with the contribution of the local communities gathered in the CIGs
- Continuous implementation of the programme to replace damaged poles
- Increasing the rate of connections with post or prepaid meters.

As a reminder, the deployment of prepaid meters is continuing throughout the national territory. The satisfaction survey carried out at the end of 2020 by the firm VISA Cameroon among 1,105 customers revealed that the "Solution" is widely accepted by users, as it improves and modernises the quality of service. Together with the other strong actions initiated by Eneo (fight against fraud, wood and concrete pole mix programme...), this innovation has therefore contributed to improving the general satisfaction index perceived by users of prepaid meters.

"Our sustained efforts to improve the quality of service in this Region can only be maintained with the contribution of the population. We expect them to be good citizens. This means paying for the electricity they consume, opposing fraud on the networks and vandalism on the installations. We are happy to know that the authorities understand this and are on our side and on the side of the population so that everyone does their part in the march towards better access to electricity," said Eric Mansuy.
