Eneo sensitizes pupils on electric current related risks during the Youth Week

February 1, 2018, Douala

Within the framework of activities marking the 52nd edition of the Youth Day, Eneo Cameroon is organizing an awareness campaign dubbed « SYWES », Special Youth Week Safety.

The SYWES is an annual event aimed at sensitizing youths on the dangers of electric current. It has two main objectives: accompanying youths during the celebration of their day so that related activities can unfold without any electric current related incident and to officially launch public awareness campaigns for the year 2018 within Eneo Cameroon.

In concrete terms, it would entail sharing in an interactive manner sensitization messages to over 350,000 school pupils throughout the country i.e. at least 35,000 pupils in each of our nine Electric Regions.

This year, 3,700 Eneo employees shall sensitize, as a matter of priority, schools in the peripheries, high risk neighbourhoods and/or recently connected to the network.  This concerns fraud hubs, localities with fraudulent connections, with new electric network extensions, pending electric network extension but which indulge in risky practices in order to be supplied with electricity including networks built by third parties; localities reputed for the theft of energy and where the population indulge in the manipulation of electric installations.

Eneo Cameroon has already organized 2 editions of the SYWES during which 682,271 pupils and their teachers were sensitized in 1,004 schools. 1,503 Eneo employees took part in these sensitizations in 2016 and 2,711 in 2017. 36 Safety Clubs were active in the field and participated notably in the march past of February 11, 2017.

Eneo Cameroon is thus committed to taking advantage of each edition of the Youth Day to call on each and everyone to be vigilant and to accompany youths in their youth day celebrations in complete safety.
