Commissioning of a new transformer at the Oyomabang Grid Substation
18 August 2016, Yaounde - Dr Basile Atangana Kouna, Minister of Energy and Water Resources shall preside over the ceremony marking the commissioning of a new transformer at the Oyomabang grid substation.
Following the incident of March 2016 that limited the transit capacity of the substation, the new equipment would restore the facility to its full capacity. It would improve in a significant manner its reliability and reduce risks of serious incidents that impact Yaounde, the Centre and South Regions.
The Oyomabang grid substation receives energy from Edea and dispatches it to various distribution supply substations that power the neighbourhoods of Yaounde as well as localities in the Centre and South Regions.
Thus, in order to supply these localities, evacuation lines exit from Oyomabang to the BRGM NGOUSSO, AHALA, KONDENGUI, NSIMALEN, MBALMAYO substations.
The new 35 MVA transformer being commissioned is the first of a series of 3 transformers ordered for the complete renovation of Set No. 2 of the substation.
The last two transformers will be commissioned by the end of 2016.
The commissioning of this new transformer at the Oyomabang substation is in line with the commitments taken by Eneo to improve on the quality of service provided to users of electricity.
As a reminder, most of the energy transmission facilities of our country are today obsolete and our transformer substations are for the most part saturated.
That is why Eneo committed to replace certain facilities pending the taking over of the relay baton by SONATREL and the State. Oyomabang ties in with all the actions initiated within the last 24 months with a view to stabilizing both the transmission and distribution networks.
Huge investments on these networks are still required so as to bring about a net improvement in the quality of service.
